Opportunities for Undergraduates at UCLA

UCLA has many research opportunities for undergraduates interested in the life sciences.

The Center for Academic and Research Excellence (CARE) offers several programs for interested undergraduates in life and physical sciences and engineering.

The Undergraduate Research Internship (URI) program at UCLA offers students a hands-on research experience working in the lab of UCLA faculty members for eight or ten weeks. Students are matched with compatible laboratories, based on stated areas of interest. The program features seminars and discussions on preparing for graduate school as well as instructional workshops on the preparation and presentation of research data. Social and cultural activities are also included. Interns will present a poster at an undergraduate research conference held at UCLA. Many past participants have gone on to present their summer research posters at national conferences and professional meetings. Overall, the program activities are designed to support and encourage Ph.D.-bound students and to help prepare them for research careers in biomedical sciences.
